Description

The Meï 美 jacket is a contemporary reinterpretation of the Chinese blue jacket, with softer lines and a slightly curved cut.

It features a curved collar, looped buttonholes and tab side adjusters. Details also include double buttoned pockets to put both hands and personal belongings.

This pattern has two variations: the jacket can be sewn with classic buttonholes, and pockets can be flapped.

This pattern is appropriate for advanced sewers. All seam allowances and hem amounts are included. You will also find a photographic tutorial as a supplement to the booklet.

Thick fabrics weighing more than 250g/m² are not recommended and should be used only by highly advanced sewers. The finer the fabric, the easier it will be to sew the Meï jacket.

Material

Thick fabrics weighing more than 250g/m² are not recommended and should be used only by highly advanced sewers. With fabrics heavier than 250gr/m², it will be delicate to sew the sleeves, the sides, the sleeve hems and the pockets. The finer the fabric, the easier it will be to sew the Meï jacket.

We recommend warp and weft fabrics with no elastane (or less than 2%) such as denim, moleskin and cotton gabardine, linen and wool. Soft leather and velvet milleraies can also be used.

Our Meï jackets were sewn with khaki cotton twill, indigo blue cotton denim, midnight blue virgin wool and a heavy blue-black cool wool.

For a fabric in 1m35 / 53.1" width, amounts of fabric are:
. 1m45 (57.08") for a size 34,
. 1m55 (61.02") for a size 36,
. 1m60 (62.99") for a size 38,
. 1m65 (64.96") for a size 40,
. 1m70 (66.93") for a size 42,
. 1m75 (68.89") for a size 44,
. 1m85 (72.83") for a size 46,
. 1m90 (74.80") for a size 48.

For a fabric with a width of 1m50, the lengths are :
. 1m35 (53.15") for a size 34,
. 1m40 (55.12") for a size 36/38,
. 1m45 (57.08") for a size 40,
. 1m50 (59.05") for a size 42,
. 1m65 (64.96") for a size 44,
. 1m70 (66.93") for a size 46/48.

Pieces are cut flush with each other to minimize the scraps. Add an extra 10 to 20cm (3.9" to 7.9") if necessary.

You will also need :
- matching or contrasting thread,
- interfacing,
- a serger (optional) or bias binding,
- 11 buttons of 18mm / 0.71" diameter (minimum).
