Alicante is a reversible tote bag with a wide shoulder strap. It has plenty of room for all the essentials and can be worn on the shoulder or slung over the chest. It has two inside pockets, one of which has a zip fastening.
This pattern has several variations:
- the exterior bag can be slit and topstitched on either side of the seam line,
- the shoulder strap is either fixed or adjustable with a knot that can be tied on the shoulder or on the side,
- the ends of the shoulder strap can be rectangular or slanted.
This pattern is appropriate for intermediate sewers. All seam allowances are included.
We recommend fabrics that are both supple and robust: cotton, linen, blends of lightweight materials, denim, supple leather, etc. Avoid fabrics that are too thick if you're sewing the bag with an adjustable shoulder strap: it will be difficult to tie the two parts of the handle together to form a beautiful knot.
Our Alicante bags were sewn with an indigo blue cotton denim and coloured linen, weighing 240g/m².
For a fabric in 1m35 / 53.1" and 1m50 / 59.1" widths, amounts of fabric are:
You will also need:
- matching or contrasting thread,
- interfacing,
- one zipper 16,5cm / 6.5".
